My adventurous wife was on deck at 03:00 to see the lunar eclipse. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had not gotten the memo. It was foggy and overcast. She said goodnight to the security guard there and returned to bed.
Pulling back our blinds this morning, we found it rained on our veranda. The sky was completely overcast. The forecast predicted a 50% or better chance of rain most of the day. We had no specific plans for the day.
Deciding to walk to town, we went ashore and headed there at about 11:00. We bumped into Sharon and John from Ottawa, whom we met at dinner two nights ago. They were adrift on what to do, so they joined us on our journey.
The first half of the walk had no redeeming qualities but became more pleasant as the sideway gained some space between it and the busy, noisy road. Together, they were a short malecón alongside the harbor.
The texture of some of the alley walls suggested they were made of whatever reasonably hard material was handy.
We opted to take a taxi back. It was a truck bed with rows of open-air seats. The fare was $6.00 per person (the posted rate), and the rate did not adjust for volume. There were eight of us, so the driver did well for a 10-minute trip. Then again, gas was $5 per gallon.
SIRENA got underway soon after we were seated for dinner. Fortunately, we had a table by a port-side window, a great vantage point to watch the shoreline pass by and eventually fade astern.
One of my favors spaces on SIRENA is her library. It is decorated from another era in cruising.
